Storia.ph is the first AI SaaS wedding-planning platform built for the Philippines. This post lays out what that claim means, the four criteria we use to test it, and what is specifically excluded, so the claim is auditable instead of marketing.

If a competitor product satisfies all four criteria and shipped before May 13, 2026, the claim is wrong and we will retract it. Section 7 of this post explains how we verify and how we would walk it back.

Why the claim is in writing

Under RA 11967 (the Internet Transactions Act of 2023), any "first," "only," or "best" claim made to a Filipino consumer is competitor-disputable. The protection a brand has against statutory liability under section 10 (unfair or deceptive practice) is a written definition that names the category precisely and lists what does not count.

We wrote that document on May 13, 2026, before any "first" claim was published on a marketing surface. This blog post is the public version of it. The internal source (with the panel-ratification record and quarterly verification cadence) lives in our governance ledger.

Same compliance pattern we used for the "Free" claim on the Wedding DNA quiz CTA in April 2026.

The four criteria

A platform qualifies as an "AI SaaS wedding-planning platform" only if it satisfies all four simultaneously. Three out of four does not count.

1. Wedding-specific

The primary user task is planning a wedding, not a general-purpose tool being repurposed for one. Wedding semantics (ceremony types, guest list mechanics, vendor classes, paperwork) are first-class objects in the product, not afterthoughts.

This excludes general AI chatbots that a couple uses for caption help or budget questions. It also excludes a website builder that happens to have wedding templates.

2. SaaS

Subscription or tier-based access with persistent state, multi-user collaboration, and a paid product surface. Not a one-time service. Not a directory of vendors. Not a free template gallery. Not a one-shot AI chatbot session.

This excludes wedding-coordinator agencies (which are full-service businesses, not SaaS products). It also excludes vendor marketplaces that take a commission on inquiries without offering a planning workspace.

3. AI-driven

AI is the load-bearing product engine, not a marketing add-on or a sub-feature shelf. The product must produce a personalized output (moodboard, website, timeline, vendor screening dialogue, copy) that the couple could not get from a static template. The output is generated by a foundation model at request time.

This is the criterion that most "AI wedding" claims fail. A speech writer or a hashtag generator is a writing helper, not a load-bearing planning engine. A budget calculator with a percentage formula is not AI. A vendor-matching feature inside a marketplace is a feature, not a platform.

4. Built for the Philippines

Cultural, regulatory, and economic context is in the product, not bolted on as a localization layer. This means Filipino ceremony types (Catholic, Civil, Christian, Muslim Nikah, INC, Tsinoy, interfaith and more), peso pricing in Tagalog and English (Cebuano-leaning register where it warms), and compliance posture against the Philippine consumer-protection statute stack (RA 11967, RA 10173, RA 7394, RA 8371, RA 11596).

This is also the criterion that lets us draw a line between Storia and the Western planners (Joy, Zola, The Knot, WeddingWire). Those tools can localize. None have. The economics of foreign-app localization do not close on a single-country market the size of the Philippines unless you are built here.

Why Storia satisfies all four

Wedding-specific. The Wedding DNA quiz is built around 14 Filipino ceremony types and a cohort-aware style profile. The paperwork tracker covers Pre-Cana, NSO/PSA, CENOMAR, parish or NCMF, congregation registry, LCR, and marriage license. Guest lists model PH-specific relationships: ninong, ninang, principal sponsors, entourage by side, family hierarchy.

SaaS. Bronze (₱4,995), Silver (₱9,995), Gold (₱24,999), and Diamond (₱49,999+) tiers with persistent state across user sessions, partner alignment for two-couple workspaces, team-member invitations for coordinators, and vendor collaboration. Documented in the May 2026 pricing decision.

AI-driven. Production-grade foundation models for text and image generation are load-bearing across the product:

  • Moodboard generation at request time, cohort-aware
  • Hiraya AI, the planning assistant, context-aware on the couple's actual budget, timeline, and guest list
  • Layon AI, the wedding-vendor screening conversation

Without the AI engine, the product is materially less valuable. We did not bolt AI on top of a checklist app. Specific AI sub-processors are disclosed in our Privacy Policy per RA 10173 transparency obligations.

Built for the Philippines. Documented architectural principles for Filipino-specific design. Cultural validation processes draw on local Filipino expertise across the ceremony types we support. Compliance posture continuously reviewed against the Philippine Internet Transactions Act, Data Privacy Act, and Consumer Act.

What this excludes (PH-local first)

This is the moat itself. We list PH-local incumbents first, per our enforced research-framing rule. Western tools are secondary.

The products below are excellent in their respective categories. They simply fall outside the four-criteria definition of an "AI SaaS wedding-planning platform" above. This is a category statement, not a quality judgment.

Philippine incumbents

Product Why excluded
WedPlanner.ph Directory + checklist with an "AI Tools (Premium)" shelf (speech writer, vow helper, hashtag generator, drinks calculator). Fails criterion 3: AI is a writing-helper sub-feature, not the load-bearing planning engine. The cohort-aware moodboard, paperwork-aware timeline, and vendor-screening dialogue Storia ships are not in the WedPlanner.ph AI Tools shelf.
Bridestory PH Vendor marketplace and inquiry inbox. Fails criteria 2 and 3: no SaaS planning workspace, no AI-generated planning output.
Kasal.com, Kasal Digital, Kasalank Invitation-website builders with static templates. Fails criterion 3.
Wedding.com.ph Vendor directory and editorial blog. Fails criteria 2 and 3.
BlessedHearts Full-service planner agency. Fails criterion 2: a service business is not a SaaS product.
Smile.com.ph Vendor and venue listing. Fails criteria 2 and 3.
HirayaWeddings.com Planner service (note: this is a different company from our planning assistant "Hiraya"). Fails criterion 2: service offering, not a SaaS product.

Western tools serving Philippine couples

Product Why excluded
Joy.com, Zola, The Knot, WeddingWire Wedding-website builders or vendor directories. None ship an AI engine that drives the planning workspace. Also fail criterion 4: not built for Filipino ceremonies, paperwork, or family structure.
GoDaddy AI Website Builder, Wix ADI, Squarespace AI General-purpose website builders with AI assistance. Fail criterion 1: not wedding-specific.
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini as direct couple-facing surfaces General-purpose AI assistants. Fail criterion 1. A couple asking ChatGPT for caption help is a use case, not a wedding-planning platform.

Adjacent products that use AI but fail other criteria

AI-enabled photo studios are service businesses. AI vendor-matching features inside marketplaces are features, not platforms. Neither holds against all four criteria.

Why this matters for couples reading this

Two reasons we built this and one reason we wrote the moat down.

We built it because every planning tool we tried (and we tried a lot of them, including the ones above) expected us to start from a blank page. Filipino weddings do not start from a blank page. They start from family conversations, ceremony decisions, and paperwork that has 6+ government touchpoints. The product needs to meet a couple where they actually are, not where a US-shaped product manager imagined them.

We built it AI-driven because the alternative (static templates plus a checklist) cannot personalize. The 14 Filipino ceremony types each have different paperwork, different vendor classes, different family roles, different timelines. Static templates collapse this into "you'll figure it out." AI-generated cohort-specific output starts you somewhere real in 30 seconds.

We wrote the moat down because "first AI wedding planning platform in the Philippines" is a competitive claim, and competitive claims that are not auditable age badly. The discipline of writing the criteria forced us to be honest about what counts and what does not. If a competitor ships something that beats all four criteria, we want to be the first to acknowledge it, not the last.

How we verify and how we would retract

Before any "first" claim ships to a new marketing surface, we re-verify that no competitor has shipped a product matching all four criteria since the last verification. The verification sources are:

  1. IPOPHL trademark search for any new Philippine-incorporated "AI wedding" entity
  2. Web search for new Philippine wedding products positioning as AI-driven SaaS
  3. Quarterly product-page review of WedPlanner.ph, Bridestory PH, Kasal, Wedding.com.ph, BlessedHearts, Smile.com.ph for category-shift signals

If a competitor product is found to satisfy all four criteria and shipped to Philippine consumers before May 13, 2026, the claim is retracted from all marketing surfaces within 48 hours of confirmation.

The audit-able public version of the full moat (with the 5-panel cross-agent vote, the carrier-surface enumeration, the retraction SLA, and a "Challenge this claim" form for competitors and journalists) lives at storia.ph/moat. This blog post is the long-form public explanation. Any current or future Storia surface that carries the "first AI" claim references storia.ph/moat by URL so the moat is reachable from the claim.

What this means for a couple reading this

If you are planning a Filipino wedding, the answer is not the "first AI" claim. The answer is whether the tool starts you somewhere useful and respects how Filipino weddings actually work.

The Wedding DNA quiz is the entry point. It is free and takes about 5 minutes. You get a custom moodboard for your wedding before you create an account. If the moodboard looks like your wedding, the rest of the product is built around that same cohort-specific shape.

Two follow-up reads if you want more depth. For a walk-through of what the AI moodboard actually looks like for a Filipino wedding and what to do with it, see our free AI wedding moodboard guide for Filipino couples. For a side-by-side comparison of how the major AI wedding planner apps in the Philippines (WedPlanner, Coheven, AtingTagpuan, Vowly, templates, and Western tools) score against the same four criteria above, see our Best AI Wedding Planner Apps in the Philippines 2026 comparison.
